    We are proud to present this year’s Fox Cities ReadsEvicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond.

    Desmond is a professor of sociology at Princeton University. After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, he joined the Harvard Society of Fellows as a junior fellow. He is the author of four books, including Evicted, which won the Pulitzer Prize. Desmond’s research focuses on poverty in America, housing insecurity, public policy, racial inequality and ethnography.

  • Artist-in-Residence

    We're excited to announce our latest artist-in-residence, Jeffrey Zdrale. Jeffrey is a self-taught artist who specializes in watercolor and oil paintings.

    Jeffrey's art will be on display in our lower level gallery from October 1 to December 28. Jeffrey will also offer special classes and workshops. Check out the schedule below.

    Watch art come to life! Enjoy a live painting demonstration with Jeffrey as he walks us through the steps needed to complete an oil painting right in our main lobby.

    Our popular Find Your Ancestors Series is back. This genealogy series takes place one Saturday a month. Check out the scheduled events below. 

    Writing Biographical Sketches
    Saturday, December 8 | 2:00 pm
    Lori Bessler, Reference Librarian at the Wisconsin Historical Society, will teach us how to turn our genealogy research into stories to pass down to future generations.

    Using Census Records
    Saturday, January 19 | 2:00 pm
    Learn about overlooked details found in census records, and how census data can broaden knowledge of your family from Tracy Reinhardt, Library Director for the Fond du Lac County Historical Society.

  • Building Process Update: November 2018

    The City of Appleton Common Council approved including $5 million in the 2019 budget to continue working on the mixed-use library proposal with Commercial Horizons.

    The city and neighboring stakeholders are working to identify ways to provide a comprehensive parking solution to address current and future needs of the proposed area. Library planning will continue as appropriate to remain in sequence with this approach.

  • Reach Out and Read Book Drive

    Individuals, businesses and organizations are invited to donate new children's books to the 2018 Reach Out and Read Book Campaign. 

    The children's books will be given to clinics participating in Reach Out and Read Partners – Fox Cities. This program gives children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together.

    Please bring donations (new and unwrapped books for children up to age 12) between November 1 and December 10 to the Appleton Public Library. Donate a copy of a childhood favorite – or one that is popular with children today. 

  • Wisconsin Author Project

    On the behalf of the Wisconsin Author Project, Appleton Public Library would like to congratulate this year’s winner,  On the Road to Death's Door by M.J. Williams and runner-up, Depravity by M.J. Haag. Both titles are available to read without delay in the Indie Wisconsin collection in BiblioBoard Library.

  • Appleton Housing Survey

    The Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Council (MMFHC), in cooperation with the City of Appleton, is engaged in development of housing recommendations that address barriers to fair housing - equal housing access. As part of the analysis, the city is conducting a set of surveys to gather information from service providers and the community. Your participation will help the city better understand barriers and provide subsequent recommendations to dismantle them.
