"The Butterfly"

I looked in my garden
on Sunday morning.
I saw a butterfly
drinking away.
It was drinking my tulips,
My daisies and sunflowers
And then I ran outside and shooed it away.

"The Library"

I love to go to the Library
There is no place I would rather be.
There are books to read.
And movies to see.
And I can find information that I need.

"Family Forever"

Getting mad,
Never long,
Always make up,
Learn right from wrong,
My Family and I are true,
Stick together like paper and glue.
Caring, sharing, do our thing,
Play together laugh and sing.

Hali P.
Grade 4

"My Sister's Puppy"

My sister got a puppy yesterday.
He is such a pain.
He does everything in a messy way,
And drives me insane.
He stepped on mom's clover,
And peed on the floor.
He knocks everything over.
At night, he scratches on my door.
He breaks my toys.
He won't play ball.
He makes too much noise.
I don't like him at all.
But sister says he's going to stay
No matter what I say.

Winning Poems for students in Grades 5 - 6

Eric W.
Grade 6

"Baseball"

I see the ball Fly through the field.
Crack! I hear the sound of the
baseball being hit.
I taste the popcorn from the stands.
I smell victory.
I feel power.
I enjoy baseball.

Kelsey G.

"Inside My House . . ."

I hear the crisp sound when
you turn the pencil in the sharpener
I see my sisters all gathered
together on the couch.
I smell yummy snickerdoodle cookies baking
in the oven.
I taste the fresh cookies melting in my mouth.
I feel the softness of my purple pillow
when I lay on it at night.
I feel love all around me when my family is
gathered together.
I hear, I smell, I taste & I feel.
Five senses I am very grateful for.

Alissa K.
Grade 5

"Sunshine"

When sitting on a hilltop, the sun shines down on me,
There's a mix of red and yellow, and maybe orange and pink
But it doesn't matter to me, cause it's so beautiful
But oh no the sun went down oh,
Well see the sun tomorrow.

"The Wonderful World"

Do you know
What is big,
What is round,
What is life?
It is our
Wonderful, wonderful world.
It has people
The same and different.
There are people
Big and small,
People tan and brown,
And people that speak
Different languages.
We are all different.

Football's the best,
I love to play,
Football's the best,

"Getting Ready To Play In The Snow"

I'm getting ready to play in the snow,
It is going to be so fun.
I really like to make snowmen,
Especially in the sun.

I'm getting ready to play in the snow,
I'll get my brother John.
I will eat my breakfast very fast,
Then I'll get my hat and mittens on.

I'm getting ready to play in the snow,
My backyard is so big.
My brother is taking long to eat,
He's eating a giant fig.

I'm getting ready to play in the snow,
We will have a snowball fight.
Suddenly I realized,
John's snowsuit is too tight.

I'm getting ready to play in the snow,
So I will call my best bud Bo.
Bo calls back and says,
"Oh wait! There is no snow!"
