First Grade Reader Celebration
The Appleton Public Library is pleased to announce First Grade Celebrate with the first grade teachers and their students as guests of honor and the focus of our festivities.

No one knows better than you the struggle and delight learning to read can be! It is an accomplishment and the Appleton Public Library wishes to celebrate the new readers, introduce them to the Appleton Public Library's Children's Services and encourage both summer and lifelong reading habits.

The climax will be the presentation of new library cards, with cheers for the new readers and for all of us who are interested in nurturing a love for reading. Plan to attend an hour during the spring of the year in April and May for this very special program. Staff will highlight the appropriate collections for these new young readers, and of course the program is free.

Wisconsin Heritage: The Pioneering Experience
The Appleton Public Library invites you to schedule a special program for fourth grade teachers and their students. Fourth grade classes will enjoy a special program at your school or at the library based on the life of pioneers and their travel.

This free educational program offers a glimpse into Wisconsin's past and will include a discuusion with titles available on the pioneering experience. Students will be able to look at maps, photographs, and handicrafts of Wisconsin from past to present. There will be trivia and booktalks about Wisconsin literature.

Call Children's Services at 832-6187 to arrange the date and time for your group.

A variety of literature-based programs are available such as a Wisconsin Heritage program, Celebrate for First graders, parent education programs etc. Children's Services staff will also provide an orientation to our section services and collections, and instruction on library resources upon request. Library staff will accommodate special requests based on the availability of staff. Time is allotted during the visit to check out materials.

Group visits are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. we recommend that you schedule your group visit at least two weeks in advance, and even earlier if possible. Library cards may be obtained for your students by picking up registration forms at the circulation desk. Completed forms must be returned to the Circulation Desk at least 10 days in advance of the visit or children may be unable to check out library materials on the day of the visit.
