On My Own!

Thursday Mornings & Afternoons
January 14 through April 1
10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.

  • Fun and educational independent classes for 4 and 5 year old children.
  • Register for one or both programs.
  • Children must be able to attend the program by his/herself.
  • Caregivers are required to stay in the building during the program.
  • Both programs last 12 weeks and children may join the classes at any time.
  • Classes begin January 14 and end April 1.
  • Each child is encouaged to get his/her own library card and check out books from the program.
  • Registration is required and limited.
  • Registration begins January 4, 2010.

Alphabet Hour
  1. Thursdays 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
  2. Registration Begins 1/4/10.
  3. Number Munchers Begins 1/14/10 and ends 4/1/10.
  4. Caregivers and siblings, join us for the craft 15 minutes before class ends!

Kids Reading to Canines
Saturday mornings
(1/9, 2/6, 3/6, & 4/10)
10:00 - 11:30 am

  • This program offers children an opportunity to read to certified therapy dogs.
  • These furry friends will listen while children practice their reading skills in a relaxed environment.
  • The dogs are certified therapy dogs and their handlers are carefully screened to provide a safe, fun experience for children involved in the program.
  • All volunteer dogs are certified through Therapy Dogs international and must meet stringent temperament, obedience, and health requirements.
  • Program will be held in the children's programming rooms.
  • Advanced registration is required and limited.
  • Sponsored by the Fox Valley Humane Association and the Appleton Public Library.
  • Free

Library Club for Kids
Friday afternoons
February 19th & April 16th
4:00 - 5:00 pm

  • For students ages 9-12
  • Hrlp thr library decide what activities to plan for kids
  • Give the library ideas on materials to add to the collection
  • Help us shelve board books
  • Play games at meetings!
  • Give us an email address and we will send an email reminders before the meeting.
  • Caregivers, become a fan of APL on Facebook and get additional reminders.

Activities for Students

Monday, March 29th

  • 9:30 - Miniature Star Books. For children in 3rd grade and up.
  • 1:30 - Movie - Monsters vs. Aliens (94 minutes, rated PG)

Tuesday, March 30th

  • 9:30 - Stegosaurus Craft. For children in kindergarten throgh 3rd grade.
  • 1:30 - Movie - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (153 minutes, rated PG)

Wednesday, March 31st

  • 1:30 - Movie - Bolt (96 minutes, rated PG)

Thursday, April 1st

  • 9:30 - Create a puppet. For children in kindergarten through 3rd grade.

Friday, April 2nd

  • 9:30 - Apples to Apples. Game is recommended for age 7 and up.
  • 1:30 - Movie - The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (111 minutes, rated PG

D.E.A.R.
Read-A-Thon

Who:
School Age Children who read independently

What:
Drop Everything And Read anything you would like in honor of Beverly Cleary and Ramona Quimby!

  • Bring a comfy pillow or cushion.
  • Silent reading only.

When:
Saturday, April 10th at 1:00 - 4:00

Where:
In the children's program rooms

Why:
Because we love to read!

  • Every child who reads for at least 1/2 hour will be entered into drawings for gift certificates!
  • One gift certificate given away every half hour.
  • One grand prize given away at 4:00 pm.
  • You do not need to be present to win the prizes.
  • Snacks will be provided!

Book Swap
Bring a gently used book to the library and swap your book with another child's gently used book.
