About the Children's Songbook Index

Finding the words and music for a specific song can be a time consuming task. Although most individual books include an index, the process of searching through over a hundred books, many of which may be checked out at a given time, is a difficult one. This index has been compiled to provide an easy way to accomplish that at the Appleton Public Library.

There are currently over 150 books included in the children's songbook index, with new ones being added as they are purchased. The focus is on vocal music.

Although songs are entered by the title only, a strong effort has been made to standardize spellings for slang or colloquial terms, as well as using the original title as given in the songbook. Some titles have more than three variations for the same song, an effort has been made to put in all of the different variations for each title. Foreign language titles have been included in an English translation whenever possible.
